2023 Donations Summary
Little Red Hen Charitable Foundation has provided its initial year to charitable organizations across
scientific, literary, educational and religious purposes, including:
- Grateful Acres
- Lemon Sponge Cake Ballet
- The Jewish Community Center of Boulder County
- University of Colorado, Opera
All grantees have met the below criteria for funding:
- A registered non-profit with “Good Standing”
- A defined project to be funded with clear goals/intended results
- A community service and/or educational component
- The non-profit organization has committed funds from other donors or sources.
The following is a brief summary of all 2023 funded organizations:
Grateful Acres
Funds will be used to support building a 40 x 60 barn and education center in an existing sanctuary for retired farm and companion animals. Funds will also be used for expand space to house animals temporarily as needed and to promote community education.
Lemon Sponge Cake
Lemon Sponge Cake brings new concepts of dance to its audiences, via the performance of new choreography that integrates ballet technique with contemporary movement. Funds will be used to engage community to depict a modern interpretation of Lepoldstdt. Lepoldstdt 1020 is a 60 minute innovative work based on the composer’s childhood experiences in Vienna. In addition, educational community workshops and events will created for exploration of the issue and dance.
The Boulder Jewish Community Center Milk and Honey Farm
Funds will primarily be used to support a local public private partnership to create and evaluate rainwater basins. This is a partnership between the City of Boulder and the Boulder JCC, located at their Milk and Honey Farm. Funds will also support farm field trips and service-learning opportunities for schools, organizations, businesses, and large family groups.
University of Colorado
Funds will support a one of a kind program called CU Now, where undergraduate and graduate students interact with noted living composers over an elongated period of time to create Opera. “The longest workshop I’ve ever had was like five or six days. To have nearly three weeks to work on it and change it every day is extraordinary!” says Jake Heggie, one of the most well-known living opera composers and frequent CU NOW guest composer.
